Ban sale of mobile to under-6s

Environment ministry proposal among new green measures set for debate this year.

BANNING the sale of mobile phones to under-6s and adverts aimed at children is part of a new package of environmental measures due for discussion in parliament.

The project is named “Grenelle 2” following its successor The Grenelle – a set of environmental laws produced after publicly-held discussions across France.

The Grenelle 2 seeks to adapt existing legislation to promote public transport, better urban planning and reducing air polution.

It includes plans to experiment with CO2 burial and for large public and private companies to reveal the amount of greenhouse gasses they produce.

According to the The Inquirer magazine the environment ministry also wants to ban the sale of mobile phones to the under-6s on health grounds.

Advertising for mobile phones aimed at those under-12 should also be banned.
