British woman dead in Riviera home
Retired expat was found with multiple stab wounds at her flat in Cagnes-sur-Mer on the Côte d'Azur
A RETIRED British woman has been found stabbed to death at her French Riviera home.
Sixty-five-year-old Carol Hagues, who lived in Cagnes-sur-Mer on the Côte d'Azur, had been stabbed at least three times in the throat and twice in the chest, local newspaper Nice Matin reports.
Her young partner, who has not been named, has been arrested and is being held in police custody in Nice. The results of a post-mortem are expected tomorrow or Thursday.
One neighbour told Nice Matin: "We often heard them rowing – they were a very passionate couple."
Another said: "We couldn't sleep for the noise some nights. The police were often called. She was hard of hearing, so even when there weren't arguments there was a lot of noise."
The public prosecutor in Grasse said there was no sign of a forced entry at the studio apartment.
A Nice police spokesman said: "A man has been arrested following the murder of a 65-year-old English woman at her flat in Rue Jean-Féraud in Cagnes."
