Deodorant recalled in France after users experience painful cysts
Gel product has been removed from shop shelves
A gel-based deodorant has been withdrawn from French shelves after users complained of “painful cysts” after applying the product.
The deodorant, sold under the brand name ‘Nuud’, was recalled after discussions between the manufacturer and the state health safety agency..
The Agence nationale de sécurité du médicament et des produits de santé (ANSM) had warned that using the gel can cause a ‘bacterial superinfection’ as well as the cysts.
The product has been removed from shop shelves, e-commerce websites, and the brand’s own website, where a notice says the product is “temporarily unavailable” and that a new formula is being worked on.
‘Painful cysts’ cause recall
“We have carried out investigations… [showing] that the galenic form of this deodorant, which is predominantly oily, could be responsible for this undesirable effect,” said the ANSM.
It believes that the gel, when applied to the skin, “promotes the obstruction of underarm pores, with the possibility of bacterial superinfection.”
It also caused ‘painful cysts’ for users, however, in most of the cases these disappeared once use of the product stopped, it added.
The ANSM added that it does not believe a single substance in the formula is individually responsible for the issue.
Products listed as sold out on website
On Nuud’s official website, any product or batch of products including the deodorant gel is listed as ‘out of stock’.
No official information has been provided on continued usage of the product if already purchased, or whether refunds will be given.
As of Thursday (September 7) morning, there is no official recall of the product listed on the RappelConso website.
If you have any of the gel deodorant sold by the brand, you can contact them via their official contact page here.
