EasyJet should be fined more

EASYJET says it is going to appeal against a €14,000 fine for throwing a disabled passenger who uses a wheelchair off one of its flights (Connexion, June). The fine EasyJet received was far too low – so let’s hope the judge decides the fine was not high enough and raises it.
A self-important person made a stupid decision, regardless of the help the passenger would have received from others had there been an emergency. That shows how much the airline values customers or even cares for them. I shall not use them any more.
EasyJet is not the only company – there are many businesses who do not care and are not even remotely interested in providing any service. Complain to customer services who will try and fob you off with an excuse such as “it’s health and safety”, or that the company does not have provision for disabled customers, that the law is only for new businesses. Ask to see a manager and “he/she is not here today” or away on a meeting.
I once came across a ferry that charged extra for disabled facilities, even though they were not fit for purpose.
These companies need to be shown that they have a duty to provide a service to disabled passengers, whether they want to or not. The law requires it.
