Budget airline easyJet is trialling a new route between Nantes and Strasbourg, aimed mainly at business travellers.

The flight route will link the western France city in Pays de la Loire, to Strasbourg in Grand Est, with the budget airline saying it plans to extend the service if there is enough demand.

The route began on April 18 and is scheduled to run until May 18, with return flights twice per week on Monday and Friday.

Fares begin at €40 one-way, or around €80-100 for a return, excluding luggage or extras.

In a statement, easyJet said: “This route meets the needs of business travellers and facilitates tourism between the Atlantic and Alsace.

“With a flight time of one hour 30 minutes, compared to six to seven hours by train or over nine hours by car [see map below], the time saved is considerable, particularly for same-day return trips,” it said.

If the trial goes well and there is sufficient demand for the route, the service may be extended, easyJet said.

Spanish airline Volotea already offers direct flights between Nantes and Strasbourg.

EasyJet has been operating from Nantes Atlantique airport since 2018, with the airline stating it now serves 36 destinations from the airport.

The new Nantes-Strasbourg route comes after easyJet started its direct service between Nice and Newcastle earlier this month, with twice-weekly flights scheduled until August 2026, and three set to run per week until November.

The easyJet expansion also comes as new rules have been brought in concerning travelling with pets in the EU.

The new regulations, which have led to confusion among pet owners, concern the use of EU pet passports by people whose main home is in the UK.
