Electric car-charging road tested in France
An end to 'range anxiety' moves a step closer with demonstration of a road that can charge electric vehicles on the go

A revolutionary 'road' that can charge electric cars as they drive along has been demonstrated in Paris.
The demonstration took place on a 100m test track at Versailles-Satory that was fitted with a wireless electric car charging system, ahead of the Parisian 'Grand Prix' of the Formula E World Championship for electric vehicles.
The system can supply 20-kilowatt charging capacity at speeds of 62 mph, its designers say.
The technology, developed by Qualcomm, Renault and French mobility and transport think tank Vedecom Institute would enable electric cars to charge their batteries while on the move, thus bringing to an end the 'range anxiety' of electric vehicle users.
Nine European countries and 25 companies - including vehicle makers, suppliers, and automotive research groups - are set to test the system throughout 2017.
