Final chance to register to vote
UK general election is on May 6, but applications for postal and proxy votes must be received by next Tuesday, April 20
THE DEADLINE for expats registering to vote in next month's UK general election is next Tuesday.
Anyone who has not yet registered as an overseas voter and asked for a postal or proxy vote should fill in the form on the About My Vote website.
You will need another British expat (not related to you) to witness your signature. The form must then be returned to the electoral registration office at the local council for your last address in Britain.
Every British citizen who has been registered to vote in the UK within the last 15 years is eligible to vote in the UK general election.
If you were too young to vote when you left the UK, you can still register as an overseas voter so long as your parent or guardian was registered to vote there and you left the UK within the last 15 years.
If you are not sure whether the details held for you are up to date, your UK electoral registration office can check the electoral register and update where necessary.
