At least 400 people have been evacuated after a fire broke out Wednesday (March 25) at the luxury hotel 'The Bristol' in Paris.
Local fire chiefs told the newspaper Ouest-France that the fire started at around 11.30, prompting the evacuation of several hundred people.
Two employees who reportedly attempted to extinguish the fire sustained minor injuries, with the fire department adding that the fire was "largely under control" by 13:00.
Police told people to avoid the area of rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré where The Bristol is located. In a post on X, the Paris police prefecture cautioned against visiting the area "in order to allow the emergency and police services to work."
Speaking to French media outlet BFM, Jeanne d'Hauteserre, outgoing mayor of the 8th arrondissement, said that the fire "originated in the kitchens" of the historic five-star hotel.
The fire comes a year after the five-star hotel, which featured in the 2011 Woody Allen film Midnight in Paris, celebrated its centenary.
