Flooding and strong wind alerts for north and northwestern France
Weather warnings have been issued by Météo France and will last until later tonight
National weather forecasting service Météo France has placed several departments in north and northwestern France under weather alerts for flooding and strong winds.
Pas-de-Calais is on an orange warning for high river levels and potential flooding and a yellow warning for wind and heavy rain.
The departments of Ardennes, Nord, Somme, Oise, Seine-Maritime, Val d’Oise, Yvelines, Eure, Calvados, Manche, Morbihan, Côtes d’Armor and Finistère are also under yellow alerts variously for wind and flooding.
Further south, Rhône is also on a yellow warning for flooding.
Finally, the coastline of Gironde, Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques have a yellow warning for powerful waves.
In Pas-de-Calais, water levels are especially high around the Liane and Hem rivers, which could break their banks today (January 12) around Wirwignes and Guémy.
“The unsettled weather episode which has affected the country for the past few days has made the soil wet, especially in the north and north-east,” Météo France has said.
