French supermarkets recall pasta, rice, prawns and couscous products
Customers told not to eat the foods which were sold in Intermarché, Carrefour, Casino and Super U supermarkets
Several pasta, rice, prawns and couscous products sold in supermarkets in France are being recalled for health reasons.
Customers who have bought the affected products are advised not to eat them and to return them to the supermarket for a refund.
Couscous recalled by Intermarché
The supermarket has recalled couscous aux épices in boxes of four 125g sachets, from the brand Saint-Eloi.
The bar code number is 3250391331444.
The expiry date is January 14, 2022.
The product was recalled as it contains turmeric with levels of ethylene oxide higher than allowed for consumption.
Rice recalled by Carrefour
Carrefour brand basmati rice has been recalled by the supermarket.
The barcode on affected packets is 3560070837984.
The expiry date is February 5, 2023.
The rice contains aflatoxins, which can cause health problems in people with hepatitis if large quantities are consumed.
Pasta recalled by Super U
Tagliatelle with curry sauce made by the brand St-Ursin has been recalled by Super U.
Affected products have two types of packaging.
The first has the reference number 2021-04-0150, and the expiration date January 31, 2024.
The second has the reference number 2021-04-0151 and the expiration date February 28, 2024.
Prawns recalled by Casino
Multiple supermarket brands from the Casino group, including Vival and Spar, have recalled 400g boxes of whole frozen tropical prawns.
The barcode on affected products is 3222477634237, and the lot number is VN/532/V/072.
The expiration date is February 2, 2022.
The prawns contain vibrio parahaemolyticus, a type of bacterium which can cause stomach pains, fever and diarrhoea 12-24 hours after consumption.
Government site helps consumers identify recalled goods
In April, the government launched an official site called Rappel Conso, listing recently recalled products in France.
If you are concerned about a product you have bought, you can use the site to check whether it has been recalled and for what reason.
