Rain returns to southern France this weekend, while the north is set to remain pleasant and calm. Temperatures will remain above average across the country although some chilly outliers are expected in the north-west.

Friday March 6

Aside from the north-east – where there will be plenty of sunshine throughout the day – thick grey clouds will cover the west, centre, and south of France.

Brittany and much of the Mediterranean will see no sunshine at all, while Normandy and the south-west will get only around two hours.

Rainfall will impact the Mediterranean coast and the south-west.

Most of the rain will come as showers or drizzle, however, more significant downpours are expected around the eastern Pyrénées where Storm Regina is clipping France.

No heightened weather alerts are in place related to the storm.

Highs of 16C - 18C are expected across the north and south-east, dropping to around 12C - 14C in the south-west.

Brittany may struggle to see temperatures reach above 10C along the coast.

Saturday March 7

Cloudy skies continue to dominate the south, bringing more rain to the south-west and heavy clouds across the south and west.

There is a small risk of thunderstorms in the south-west, but rainfall should be light and, despite the grey skies from Brittany to Nice, the majority of the country should remain dry.

Conditions will be calm in the north, with more sunshine forecast among wispy clouds.

Temperatures will remain at around 15C - 18C in the afternoon, despite the contrast in sunshine.

Sunday March 8

The risk of rain spreads across the south, running from Bordeaux to Nice, although it should only fall as drizzle and sporadic showers.

Skies continue to be grey south of the Loire, however sunshine will spread into Normandy and Brittany.

Temperatures remain similar to Saturday but may be a couple of degrees cooler along the English Channel.

Early forecasts for next week see a new bout of Atlantic rain spread across France from Monday, covering much of the country until at least Wednesday (March 11).
