French weekly weather forecast November 3 - 7: midweek temperature spike

Rain is then due at the end of week

A calm start to the week will allow for plenty of sunshine
Published

A warm and calm start to the week will be followed by rain, as France sits between two distinct atmospheric conditions.

However, the calm low-pressure system from the Atlantic and a high-pressure system across Central Europe are unlikely to clash over France, meaning there is little risk of storms except for along the Mediterranean at the end of the week.

Temperatures of up to 27C are possible in the Pyrénées on Wednesday due to the foehn effect, and elsewhere will remain above average.

Monday November 3

Monday will be noticeably calmer following a weekend of rain in many areas.

Clouds in the north will slowly disperse, although much of the south will be sunny from early morning.

Temperatures of 12C to 13C in the north, 15C to 17C in Brittany and Normandy, and 17C to 22C in the south are forecast.

The Mistral and Tramontane winds are expected to be fairly strong, but no weather warnings are in place for gales along their respective paths.

Tuesday November 4

Calm conditions will continue, although in the west and parts of Normandy grey clouds are expected throughout the day.

In the south-west, wispy clouds are possible, but will not stop temperatures potentially reaching 23C.

Elsewhere, highs of around 16C throughout the north are possible, and around 20C in the south, as temperatures remain largely the same as on Monday.

Wednesday November 5

Showers along the Atlantic coastline are likely, acting as a precursor to rain at the end of the week.

Clouds will move inland to central areas – even if rain does not follow – with the Mediterranean and eastern regions likely to be the sunniest.

Temperatures will rise further, potentially reaching 27C in the foothills of the Pyrénées as the foehn effectimpacts the mountain chain.

Outside of this, however, conditions will still be considerably warmer than average across most of the country, with highs of 23C elsewhere in the south and up to 20C in the north.

The south-east will likely be cooler than Normandy and Paris, although the ample sunshine compared to grey skies in the north may make it ‘feel’ warmer.

Along the eastern border, temperatures will be lower.

Overall, national average temperatures are expected to reach up to 14.4C, over 3C more than average for the season. National average temperatures are set to be above seasonal averages for most of the month.

Thursday November 6

Rain from the Atlantic coastline will move inwards and cover most of France.

In the north it will be light and drizzly, albeit persistent, but in the south it may fall heavily.

This is likely to be the case along the Mediterranean, where some small storms may form.

Major storms are not forecast, although areas of the coast around Montpellier may see more than 50mm of rain before the end of the week.

Temperatures will drop, back down to 14C/15C in the north and around 20C in the south, but still remain warmer than average.

Friday November 7

Rain will continue in the west, pushing into Normandy and central areas as the day progresses, and snaking along the Mediterranean coastline.

Cloud coverage is likely over most of the remaining central and eastern areas, although the south-east is likely to benefit from sunshine.

Temperatures will hover at similar levels to Thursday.

Early forecasts for the weekend see rain sweep eastwards to cover most of France.
