Gay pair snubbed by minicab driver
Clients take to Twitter to complain about driver after he refused to let them get in his car
A PARIS minicab driver has been suspended for refusing to let two young gay passengers in his vehicle.
The driver, for well-known Parisian VTC (voitures de tourisme avec chauffeurs) company Uber was disciplined after one of the pair took to Twitter to complain to the company.
They had booked the minicab to pick them up outside a nightclub in Paris’s ninth arrondisement in the early hours of Sunday, but when the driver arrived and realised they had just left a gay party, he refused to let them in his vehicle.
The pair, identified as communications student Julien H and his friend Lucas, told Le Figaro that they ordered a second vehicle from Uber - but the same driver returned.
This time, one of them was able to take a photo of the vehicles registration plate on his mobile phone.
He was threatened for his trouble. “Come here - I’ll smash your phone,” the driver is reported to have said.
A few hours after the incident, Uber replied to the complaint - also on Twitter - to say that the driver in question had been suspended.
The tweet said: “This unacceptable behavior is absolutely not representative of the Uber spirit. The driver has been suspended.”
But Julien H is taking his complaint further. He said: “We must defend our values . This kind of incident happens far too often.”
