Grass pollen allergy warning as warm weather returns to France
Sunshine and temperatures in the 20s are predicted for the weekend as are high grass pollen counts in many departments
After weeks of grey, rainy weather Météo France has forecast sun for the final weekend of May throughout France.
Anticyclonic conditions will bring dry, warm weather to France today (May 28), with “very sunny” conditions forecast throughout the country.
Temperatures in the south of France are forecast to rise above seasonal averages to 19-26C.
In the north, sun with some cloud cover and gentle winds is forecast along with temperatures of 11-21C.
For the weekend Météo France said: “At the moment the most likely scenario is looking good, with pleasant temperatures and mostly sunny weather.”
In the north, the weekend will be sunny, with temperatures rising to 22C in some areas on Sunday afternoon.
In the south, clouds and some changeable weather is possible, especially around the Alps and the Pyrenees. Saturday afternoon could see highs of 28C in Perpignan.
Grass pollen ‘very high’
The warmer weather will also raise pollen levels in France.
Circulation of oak pollen will increase everywhere except along the Mediterranean coast.
Grass pollen will also rise to “high” levels in over half of all departments, and “very high” levels in five departments, Le Réseau National de Surveillance Aérobiologique reports.
The five departments with “very high” levels of grass pollen are Pyrenées-Orientales, Aude, Vaucluse, Rhône and Deux-Sèvres.
You can check the pollen levels in your department here.
