Half of French men have had affair
A survey for a dating site shows that President Hollande's alleged affair is far from being the only one
MORE than half of French men (55%) said they had been unfaithful, in an online survey.
But the women were not perfect either – with nearly a third (32%) admitting to it.
Bed-hoppers are more likely to come from the left of the political divide with 46% of left-leaning voters owning up past infidelities, compared to 40% of those on the right, the Ifop poll for extra-marital dating site gleedon.com found.
The number of people in France who have been unfaithful has risen steadily over the past four decades to 43% from 19% in 1970 and 30% in 2001.
Older and more affluent men are more likely to indulge in affairs, the poll suggests.
Nearly half of respondents (46%) confessed to having kissed someone other than their partner, while half owned up to serious flirting.
But they had better make sure their other halves do not find out: two out of three women believe that “kissing is wrong”, while 57% of people of both sexes consider that exchanging saucy messages is a form of infidelity.
Ifop survey director François Kraus said: “One of the key pieces of information to come from the study is that women are less forgiving of these indiscretions than men."
However, despite the rise in infidelity, 68% of people still believe it is possible to remain faithful to one person and 63% think that you can still love someone while being unfaithful.
