Hot weather to return to parts of France this week
Temperatures are set to rise again despite some rain over the weekend
France is set for a largely sunny and increasingly hot start to September, with temperatures expected to rise well above seasonal norms by the end of the week.
The week will begin with some unsettled weather, particularly in northern France, before sunshine becomes more widespread and temperatures rise.
The new school year will begin in summery conditions, especially in the south.
By the end of the week, temperatures could be 5C to 10C above seasonal averages, with highs exceeding 30C across parts of southern and western France.

Monday
Monday will see a mixture of sunshine and cloud across France. The brightest conditions are expected from the Pyrenees to the Alps, with long spells of sunshine in many southern and eastern areas.
Further north, the weather is likely to be more unsettled, with thicker clouds and the possibility of showers in many areas.
Tuesday
Temperatures will rise further on September 1, which is the first day of the new school year for most pupils in mainland France.
Parts of southern France could see highs of 26C to 30C, while conditions may feel humid and heavy. Some clouds and occasional showers could persist near the Channel, with temperatures more moderate in northern areas.
Morning temperatures could reach 25C in Nice, 27C in Perpignan and 28C in Montpellier, according to state forecaster Météo-France.
Wednesday
Wednesday will begin with a mix of cloud and sunshine, with a few showers still possible in some areas.
The weather is expected to improve as the day goes on, with sunny spells becoming more widespread across much of the country. Areas near the Channel are likely to remain cloudier.
Thursday and Friday
The weather is expected to become sunnier and drier across much of France towards the end of the week, with temperatures rising significantly.
Highs in the south could exceed 30C, while northern areas may see temperatures of between 25C and 29C.
Friday could be the hottest day of the week, with forecasts currently suggesting highs of 31C in Bordeaux, 32C in Montpellier and 33C in Toulouse. Paris could reach around 27C.
Although temperatures are not expected to reach the extreme levels seen during the summer, they could still be between 5C and 10C above seasonal norms by the end of the week.
