Must I change my pool alarm?
Private individuals with alarms conforming to one of the old norms are not obliged to change them
IS THE new standard for swimming pool alarms you mentioned in the January edition retrospective and must I buy a new one? I bought an alarm last July which meets NFP90-307/ 1A. Is this suitable? I believe my alarm does not meet the new standard. In case of an accident, is my insurance still going to cover me? C.N.
Private individuals with alarms conforming to one of the old norms are not obliged to change them.
The reference to phasing out alarms which met safety norms was to shops which supply them.
If your alarm meets the norms NF P90-307, NF P90-307/A1 (old standards) or NF P90-307-1 (the latest standard which should be on sale in shops) it is fine.
Concerning insurance matters you would have to check the fine print of your contract or check with your insurer to be absolutely sure whether replacing the alarm each time a norm is updated is required by your policy.
