No degrees for student protesters
Students have been warned they could be barred from graduating if they do not let universities function properly
EDUCATION Minister Xavier Darcos has warned protesting students that those who have brought universities to a standstill will be refused their degrees.
He claimed that 28 out of the 85 universities affected were being blocked by just a few dozen individuals who were harming the weakest students.
Darcos told the students there “will be no degrees in striking, no masters in making petitions and no doctorates in delays”.
However, the minister did not exclude concessions over new teachers with a possible easing of new regulations for recruitment.
He said opinion was turning against the protest which was causing problems with setting exams and in getting students’ degree work validated.
Meanwhile, in Toulon, police broke up a protest by about 100 students who have blocked access to the University of the South Toulon-Var for a week.
