Normandy leads digital TV switch
Basse-Normadie has become the first region in France to switch off its analogue TV broadcasting signal.
BASSE-Normadie has become the first region in France to switch off its analogue TV broadcasting signal.
It will be followed by the Pays-de-la-Loire in May and Brittany in June.
All of France is due to have switched over by November 2011. If you want to continue to watch TV you need to make sure you either pick up signals through a digital receiver, or by other methods such as cable or satellite.
If you are still watching on an analogue receiver, you will see banner messages on your screen warning of the up-coming switch.
A French helpline is available on 09 70 818 818 (cost of a local call) or you can visit the website www.tousaunumerique.fr for more information.
Digital TV (télévision numérique terrestre or TNT) means improved pictures and sound and 18 channels instead of six.
Digital receivers start at €20 – and financial help is available for low-income families and the elderly.
See www.connexionfrance.com for more information about the changeover.
