Several models of Peugeot and DS cars are being recalled in France due to a defect with the vehicle’s door handles that could endanger motorists' lives.
The recall affects vehicles manufactured between 2022 and 2026.
The issue concerns the interior door handles (front and back), which may be deactivated when the engine is on. This means that people may be unable to open the doors from inside while the vehicle is running.
The fault could prove especially dangerous if it prevents occupants from leaving a vehicle following an accident or other emergency.
It comes as children have died in separate incidents in France after becoming trapped inside parked cars earlier this month during the recent extreme heat conditions. The incidents were unrelated to the manufacturing fault but highlight the dangers of being unable to open a car door.
Which vehicles are affected?
The recall, published on the government's RappelConso website, covers the following Peugeot models:
Peugeot 308 (V3)
Peugeot 408
Peugeot 3008 (V3)
Peugeot 5008 (V3)
It also includes the following DS Automobiles models, originally launched by Citroën before becoming a standalone brand under the Stellantis group.
DS4 (V2) or DS N°4
DS8 or DS N°8
Owners should check whether their vehicle falls within the affected VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) ranges listed on the RappelConso website here and here. The VIN can be found on the vehicle registration document (carte grise).
The affected vehicles were manufactured between:
Peugeot 3008 V3: October 9, 2023 to July 9, 2025
Peugeot 308 V3: November 1, 2023 to February 12, 2026
Peugeot 408: November 3, 2023 to February 9, 2026
Peugeot 5008 V3: December 5, 2023 to July 10, 2025
DS 4: December 14, 2022 to February 9, 2026
DS N°8: March 27, 2025 to October 28, 2025
What should you do if your car is affected?
Those whose vehicles are affected should contact their Peugeot or DS dealer to arrange the necessary repair. Repairs carried out as part of a manufacturer safety recall are generally provided free of charge.
