French health insurance website unveils new-look reimbursement information
New Ameli feature helps you better track your expenses and reimbursements
Residents in France covered by the state health insurance system can now more easily track the reimbursements they receive across the year.
Those enrolled in the insurance system, Assurance Maladie, can check an annual bill of all refunds through their login space on the insurer’s website, called Ameli.
Known as the ‘relevé annuel de prestations’, the bill lists all the reimbursements a person has received from Assurance Maladie over the previous calendar year (so for those checking in August 2026, it would cover information from 2025).
Since the end of June, however, Ameli has presented the information through a graphic layout (including an easy-to-read pie-chart) rather than a simple list.
“This new statement makes it easier to see the total annual amount covered by Assurance Maladie,” said Ameli on its website about the change.
“In the face of current health challenges, such as an ageing population and rising rates of chronic disease, improving the appropriateness of care and the organisation of the system requires ensuring that everyone is better informed about their own healthcare spending.”
It is part of wider plans to increase transparency over healthcare reimbursements, with Assurance Maladie also looking into other measures such as sending texts following any reimbursement made.
A push for reimbursements to be more transparent comes both as a way to reduce social security fraud, but also remind people of the wider cost of healthcare at a time when France’s social security budget is facing billions of euros of debt.
Reimbursements split across five categories
The new annual statement splits reimbursements into five main categories:
Hospital and clinic stays and associated hospital fees
Medicines and pharmacy costs
Outpatient consultations and medical procedures/appointments (GPs, specialists, etc)
Paramedical care, laboratory tests, and medical transport
Daily allowances and maternity benefits
Each category has its own reimbursement amount shown, with the total sum for all five categories given.
For those with dependent children under their Assurance Maladie policy, these reimbursements are also shown.
You can find it in your Ameli account via the ‘Frais de santé’ section.
“It is also the online tool that shows the cost of hospital or clinic stays and treatments,” Ameli added, reminding users to remain vigilant against social security scams.
What else can website be used for?
The Ameli website is available to anyone who has access to Assurance Maladie in France.
Users can create a personal log in to use the website, with this unique space becoming a one-stop shop for many requests related to your healthcare services.
Alongside an overview of reimbursements from the state health insurer, you can link your top-up mutuelle insurance policy to your account, allowing documents and reimbursement information to be shared between the organisations.
In most cases, this is automatic but you can make manual requests if this is not the case.
You can also use your Ameli account to apply for a carte Vitale (health insurance card) or otherwise ask for a replacement if yours is lost, damaged, or stolen.
This means that you should already have an Ameli account, if you have a carte Vitale, as the majority of cards for those who have moved to France are created and ordered through the website.
The website is also the place to ask for copies of documents you may need such as your attestation de droits.
Residents in France can also apply for a Carte européenne d’assurance maladie (European Health Insurance Card) for coverage of medically necessary treatment when on holiday in most other European countries including the UK.
Note the website is separate from Mon Espace Santé, which holds your health records and can be shared with healthcare professionals to help them understand your medical needs at a glance.
