Covid-19 on the rise in France - map shows worst-hit departments
Some departments are recording more Covid-19 related emergency visits than others
Covid-19-related hospital visits have increased in France, according to the latest figures from the official public health body Santé publique France.
The agency’s weekly respiratory illness bulletin, published on November 4, found that indicators linked to Covid-19 rose slightly in hospitals during the week of October 26 to November 1.
The bulletin noted that “syndromic and virological indicators continued to increase slightly in hospitals” in the week covered.
However, it said that the situation outside hospitals was much more stable, with indicators in community settings either decreasing or remaining stable.
Overall, activity remains low and at levels comparable to those recorded at the same time last year.
The bulletin provided no overall figures for the whole of France although it did provide regional breakdowns.
Which departments are most affected?
The virus is not circulating at the same levels throughout France. Some departments recorded higher rates of emergency department visits for Covid-19 than others.
Some of the highest rates, based on the Odissé data platform, were recorded in Jura, Indre and Haute-Marne.
Figures show around 764 virus-related emergency department visits per 100,000 visits in Jura, 755 in Indre and 733 in Haute-Marne.

How to protect yourself
A few simple precautions can help limit the spread of the virus, including wearing a mask when experiencing symptoms, especially in public spaces or around vulnerable people, washing hands regularly and ventilating indoor spaces.
Additionally, the autumn Covid-19 vaccination campaign began on October 13 in mainland France. Vaccination is recommended for people aged 65 and over, immunocompromised people and pregnant women.
