What are France’s Mon Espace Santé and Dossier Medical Partagé?

Reader Question: What is the difference between the Mon Espace Santé and Dossier Medical Partagé? I remember the latter used to have medical records on but has it been replaced? If so, was data transferred automatically? 

France’s ‘Mon Espace Santé’ is an online health space available to all subscribers of state health insurance Assurance Maladie. 

It is a one-stop shop for a patient’s health data, administrative information, previous treatments, etc, and can also be used by health professionals to send messages to patients.

In addition, it allows patients to:

• Consult their medical information and other health data

• Share documents with various healthcare professionals that may see them (GP, specialists, nurses, etc)

• Upload documents themselves that they feel may be important for medical staff to know

• Block certain medical practitioners from viewing their records, or hide certain records from certain medical practitioners

It is available through the Ameli website, after users have logged in to their account (the space is linked to an individual’s account).

Dossier Médical Partagé included

The Dossier Médical Partagé (DMP) predates the creation of Mon Espace Santé but since 2022 it has been incorporated into this wider patient interface. 

It is now basically a section of the Mon Espace Santé that contains health records. The contents are visible to yourself and your medical practitioners.

This includes overview of previous appointments, hospital visits, medication provided, surgeries, X-rays, letters sent by doctors to the patient, etc.

Healthcare professionals still use the DMP system to access a patient’s health records through professional logins (that allows them access to medical records of several patients), the way a patient uses the Mon Espace Santé to access the information on their side. 

This is strictly controlled to avoid sensitive medical data being leaked.

All documents held on DMPs in place before the switch to Mon Espace Santé should have been automatically transferred over. 

However you can check the space yourself and then manually upload any missing documents.
