Strikes in France in October 2025 and how you may be impacted

Relatively little action is planned following major union protests in recent weeks

Major protests took place at the beginning of the month
Published Modified

Strike action is likely to be limited throughout the rest of October, after major strikes at the end of September and the start of the month.

A second day of union-led protests on October 2 saw relatively low turnout, and the intersyndicale has not called for further action – perhaps due to the political instability engulfing France.

At the same time, a major strike from air traffic controllers set to take place on October 7 - 9 was also called off, after the main SNCTA union reached an agreement with the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC).

Below, we cover the remaining strike action. This page will be updated with any further announcements.

Teacher strike - October 14

Teaching staff at lycées professionnels (age 15 - 18) are set to strike on Tuesday October 14.

The strike is being called over plans to change the final year of teaching at schools, particularly for the ‘bac professionnel’ or vocational pathway.

The SNUEP-FSU are among several unions arguing that teaching hours are being reduced and forcing pupils into a precarious labour market too early.

They are calling for more teaching hours, reinstatement of certain technical exams, and the reversal of recent plans to remove training hours.

Protests and demonstrations are expected in major cities, and some schools may be closed.

Unlike for primary schools however, there are no mandatory service requirements for the lycées or local authorities to look after pupils during the day as under French law secondary schools are not subject to the service minimum d’accueil requirement.
