France’s official consumer recall site, Rappel Conso, has announced several new food recalls involving coffee, fish, and meat products sold in supermarkets across France, following contamination and safety non-complicance concerns.

Monoprix coffee recalled over toxic contamination

A 250g pack of Monoprix Gourmet Ethiopian ground coffee has been recalled nationwide after the presence of ochratoxin A was detected.

This is a nephrotoxin, which damages the kidneys, and is classified as a Group 2B possible human carcinogen.

It can cause nephrotoxic effects, which may contribute to kidney damage, as well as potential carcinogenic effects, among other risks, particularly in cases of repeated exposure.

Sciences company Eurofins say that “ochratoxin A is a contaminant found in a wide variety of foods, such as cereals and cereal products, coffee beans, dried fruit, wine and grape juice.”

It can develop during the drying and storage of agricultural products if practices are not properly controlled.

The batch affected is A22B, with a best before date of 22/01/2028. It has been sold since December 31, 2025, at Monoprix stores across France.

The recall notice advises consumers to stop drinking the coffee, return it to the point of sale or destroy it. Those returning the product will be refunded.

The recall procedure will be active until June 30.

Mackerel fillets recalled over histamine risk

A batch of vacuum-packed mackerel fillets sold at E.Leclerc Angoulême has also been recalled due to non-compliant histamine levels, which can cause food poisoning.

The affected product, marketed under the E.Leclerc Angoulême brand is marked with a best-before date of 18/04/2026. The fish was sold between April 13 and April 17 and was distributed only within the Angoulême region.

Histamine poisoning is a foodborne reaction that happens within minutes to a few hours after consumption. Often it presents sudden allergic-like symptoms such as facial flushing, headaches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Consumers who purchased the product are advised to return it to the point of sale or contact the retailer to obtain a refund. The recall remains in effect until May 13.

Minced beef recalled in Beuzeville over Listeria contamination

Finally, a separate recall concerns unbranded minced beef, sold at Carrefour Market Beuzeville between April 10 - April 23, after the detection of Listeria Monocytogenes, the bacteria responsible for listeriosis.

The illness can be particularly serious for pregnant women, the elderly and also individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can include fever, headaches, and body aches. The incubation period can be up to eight weeks.

Once again, if you have purchased this product it is advised not to eat it, and to contact the supermarket for a refund.

The recall remains in place until May 16.
