A British driver was involved in a collision on Monday (August 26) after she began driving on the left-hand side of the road in rural France and hitting an oncoming vehicle.

The accident happened around 22:00 near Castelnau-d'Auzan-Labarrère, Gers, as the woman drove towards the Landes department.

The Briton had reverted to habit and began driving on the left lane as opposed to the right down the D15 road, a two-lane carriageway in the department.

Despite colliding head-on with the other vehicle, neither the British driver or the other driver, 32, were seriously injured. Neither vehicle was going excessively fast.

Drug and alcohol tests on the drivers came back negative. The woman told police she was extremely tired and thus had made the mistake.
