UK parliament due to debate votes for life today

The debate is due to be held today in the main chamber of the House of Commons where MPs are currently discussing a bill about organ donation.

The bill on votes for life for Britons overseas is the second item on today’s list – there is a potential risk it could not be debated if the first item takes too long.

The bill is a private member’s bill, introduced by MP Glynn Davies, however the government decided to support it and it is hoped that should it fail to be debated it may take it over as an ordinary government bill.

Conservative MP Sir Roger Gale told Connexion for the March edition of the newspaper (out this week) he hopes the bill succeeds in changing the law rapidly so Second World War veteran and expat rights campaigner Harry Shindler, 96, from Italy, is able to see the change he has fought for.
