Unemployment rises by 63,000
Figure up 2.7% on previous month – up to 2,448,200 jobseekers.
UNEMPLOYMENT in France has risen by 63,000 over the course of a month.
Lastest figures from the Pôle Emploi show the number of category A jobseekers – those immediately ready to start work but unable to find any – has risen to 2,448,200 people.
It is the 11th month in a row that unemployment has risen. Today it is 22.1% higher than during the same period last year.
Economy Minister Christine Lagarde said: “It will still be several months before the rate of job losses calms.”
Ms Lagarde said that economic experts predict more than a year’s delay between economic recovery and a reversal of the jobless figures.
