Wallaby hops home after days on run
Owner’s delight as three-year-old Bibi is reunited with his mate
A DESPERATE search for a missing wallaby in the Nord department has ended happily.
Bibi, a three-year-old male, enjoyed a romantic reunion with his mate when he returned home after several days on the run near Hasnon.
Bibi’s owner Michel Urbanski, who has four wallabies on land opposite the D958 route national, said he went down to the animals’ enclosure early in the morning and, “Bibi was right there, as if just waiting for me to open him the gate.
“When I opened the gate, he started to run towards his mate, who was at the gate, making great leaps."
The animal had escaped several days earlier after a thief cut a hole in the enclosure to steal a few apples and biscuits.
He was spotted several times in an orchard in the area - but repeated efforts to capture him ended in failure.
The longer Bibi was on the run, the more Mr Urbanski feared he might be hit by a car as he tried to cross the busy D958.
But it seems Bibi quickly tired of his life on the run, and returned to his enclosure after a few days.
