Wild boar destroy football pitch

Staff turn up at sixth-division club to find two-thirds of grass has been torn up by the animals

A FOOTBALL club in eastern France has had to move all of its home games to another venue until further notice – after wild boar tore up most of the pitch.

The groundsman at sixth-division AS Munster in Alsace had a nasty surprise when he turned up to work on Monday to find nearly two-thirds of the grass had been destroyed by the intruders overnight.

A pack of wild boar had managed to break into the grounds on Sunday night by digging a hole under the perimeter fence.

Club president Bertrand Gazet told local paper Les Dernières Nouvelles d'Alsace that AS Munster had one of the best-kept pitches in the region, frequently used by teams in bigger leagues for training.

It will take at least a month to repair. Until then, the side's home matches will be played at another ground.
