The affected departments are the Aude, Gard, Haute-Garonne, Hérault, Pyrénées-Orientales and Tarn. The alert is in place until 13.00 on Tuesday.
Strong easterly winds are also likely to cause choppy waters on the Languedoc-Roussillon and the risk of some localised flooding on coastal paths.
