Is there a time limit on shopping trips during France's current coronavirus lockdown?
No. The one-hour time limit and one kilometre maximum distance both apply only when you are getting some exercise or walking the dog.
You will need an attestation dérogatoire de déplacement to shop for the "alimentaires et de première nécessité" or food and basic necessities, while ticking the box "pour faire mes courses" permits you to be away from home for more than an hour and travel beyond the 1km limit.
Most of the major supermarkets and many other stores have put in place click-and-collect options, allowing you to order groceries online and arrange to pick them up at a certain time to limit contact and reduce the spread of Covid-19.
On Friday, October 30, the government announced the closure of the book and cultural departments in supermarkets. On Sunday, November 1, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced that supermarkets will not be able to sell 'non-essential items' of any kind. A full list of what can and cannot be sold is set to be released on Tuesday.
