A leading consumer association in France has relaunched its collective purchase campaign for wood pellets, looking to bring lower prices for households purchasing the fuel in 2026.
The scheme, organised by Que Choisir Ensemble (previously UFC Que-Choisir) opened yesterday (May 4) with participants able to sign up until May 24.
Households sign up by indicating the amount of pellets they want to purchase, which is then collated by the consumer group with nearby requests.
By placing bulk orders the scheme allows participants to obtain pellets at a cheaper price than if bought individually.
It is one of several such national schemes in France, and in 2025 more than 60,000 households purchased pellets through Que Choisir Ensemble.
Not required to buy pellets
Households must sign up before the May 24 deadline through the official website, providing basic details such as name/address, desired amount of pellets, etc.
In 2025, the scheme offered the same price for pellets nationally across the country regardless of where the property was located, with goods sourced from a single certified source (aCalor+).
Note however that supply costs can vary, as materials are delivered by various local suppliers which, although verified by Que Choisir Ensemble, may charge different delivery rates.
Those who sign up on the website by May 24 will receive a quote for their desired amount of pellets on May 25, indicating the price they will need to pay.
They have until June 7 to confirm if they want to opt-in and make an order through the company.
Households are not obliged to do so however and the contract is sans engagement, meaning people can choose not to proceed without any repercussions or hidden fees.
The households that do agree are then put in contact with local suppliers to organise delivery, which will take place between June 8 - July 19.
It is open to any homeowner in France, including second home owners, but excluding Corsican residents.
Payments are made directly to local suppliers, who also organise payment methods and types.
Once delivered, ensure you store your pellets correctly to reduce the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
