Diesel prices have slightly decreased following a peak of €2.398 per litre on Thursday morning.
Prices were initially expected to drop by up to 10c per litre at larger service stations at the start of the weekend, said government ministers, affecting both petrol and diesel (gazole) prices.
Smaller stations were expected to see prices begin to drop over the weekend or the start of next week.
However, diesel prices have dropped by less than 10c since Thursday's peak, and petrol prices have remained stagnant at around €2.00 - €2.10 per litre.
There is hope that prices will fall further as the week progresses, with prices diesel prices dropping around 2c per litre since the start of the week.
