How can UK travellers prove to France they have been vaccinated?

No specific details have been announced yet by the French government, but it is thought travellers will just have to show the vaccination certificates that they received in their home countries

From the end of July, it will be possible for the French system to verify vaccination and Covid test certificates issued in non-EU countries if the formats are compatible

Reader question: I am fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and I want to travel to France from June 9. How do I prove that I am fully vaccinated?

No specific details have as yet been announced by the French government as to how people travelling from non-EU countries from June 9 can prove their vaccination status to travel authorities.

It is expected, though, that travellers will be asked to show the vaccination certificates that they have received from their home country, as is currently the case for travellers showing negative Covid-19 tests.

However, from the end of July, vaccination certificate verification systems from non-EU countries will be integrated with the French and EU systems, providing that the formats are compatible, a spokesperson for France’s Ministry of Health told The Connexion yesterday (June 4).

The UK system is expected to be one that is deemed compatible but this has not yet been confirmed.

From June 21, it will be possible for the French system to verify vaccination and Covid test certificates from all other EU countries, the spokesperson added.

Until then, France’s verification tool, the one that will be used to scan the vaccination or test certificates, will only function with vaccination certificates or Covid-19 tests that have been issued in France.

France is set to reopen international travel through a red-amber-green system on June 9 with countries around the world designated in one of the three colours and entry rules varying depending on this.

Most countries, including the UK and US, are currently classified as amber, meaning that fully vaccinated people in the UK can enter France from June 9 without an essential reason and without the need to quarantine on arrival.

They will only need to present proof of vaccination and of a negative PCR test taken 72 hours before travelling as well as proof of their vaccination status.

The Connexion will post updates when more information on this is released.
