A mobile speed camera being used along Nice’s famous Promenade des Anglais has changed location again as authorities look to ensure drivers stay within speed limits.
A series of mobile speed cameras were introduced along the stretch of coastal road in May this year.
Set to be a temporary measure until authorisation for modern cameras to be installed are given, these mobile radars can be easily moved and are to be rotated between several spots.
Drivers are not being informed by authorities each time the cameras move, as the idea is for speeding to be eliminated along the entire stretch of road.
After being placed at several spots including near Fabron, Marcel-Kirchner Square, and exits to the airport, the mobile radar is back in its first location, near the Flots d'Azur Hotel close to the iconic Negresco Hotel.
The social media post below from when the cameras were originally installed shows what the device looks like. It is unknown when the camera will next be moved or where to.
The road is one of the most dangerous in the Alpes-Maritimes department, with 19 fatalities being recorded since 2020, and at least four so far this year.
Earlier this month, private unmarked radar vehicles began circulating in the department, and are expected to also patrol the famous coastal road alongside more than 40 other routes.
