Tax offices put out handy video on ‘at source’ tax

If you are wondering what all the fuss is about over ‘ prélèvement à la source ’, the tax authorities have put out a 2-minute video crash-course.

Published Modified

The video, (in French) at this link, explains some of the key concepts as to what is and is not changing as of the start of this new ‘at source’ tax system from January 1, 2019.

For many people, the answer is likely to be ‘not much’, however there are some major organisational changes involved and it is to be hoped that it does not introduce extra complication. The government claims that it will be good news for cash-flow for some people, because taxation will adjust rapidly to any changes in people's situation.

Our French Income Tax 2018 guide also has several pages of information on these changes to come which, however, do not affect your declarations of 2017 income in May this year.

The guide, which explains how to declare many common kinds of income in the forthcoming declarations, is available for order at this link or from selected newsagents, at €12.50 (+P&P for printed copies posted to your home).
