Travel to France from UK for funeral
Is it possible to travel to France from UK for a father’s funeral?
Funerals or family reasons are not listed on the certificate for international travel that the French government requires anyone coming to France from the UK (or elsewhere) to fill in. The restricted list of reasons for travel into the country only relates to work purposes or for the return to a main residence.
The certificate can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/vtpmd6w
However, the British Embassy advises anyone in a situation where they need to travel to France concerning the death or illness of a close family member to contact their consular services as in some circumstances, such as possibly the death of a father, they may be able to help.
The Embassy says it cannot give a yes or no answer as to whether travel into France for the funeral of a close family member would be allowed as every situation is different.
For example, it may be possible to come and help someone who is left on their own and needs assistance sorting out their affairs after the death of a loved one.
The list of contacts to consular services in Paris, Marseille or Bordeaux can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/world/organisations/british-embassy-paris
The Embassy says the situation will not change for travel between the two countries after deconfinement on May 11 but may be reviewed in the second deconfinement stage in June.
The French government’s free helpline has also been helpful for people who can speak French and who have requests for unusual situations, the Embassy said. You can contact it on: 0 800 130 000.
