Surveys target Britons in France without a Brexit WA residency card

Support group will pass on data to British Embassy as application deadline of June 30 approaches

Two new surveys have been launched to gather information about Britons in France who still have pending applications for residency cards, or who have yet to apply for one.

The surveys (click here) are aimed at Britons who fall under the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement (WA) because they were living in France by the end of 2020 – and who therefore are obliged to apply online for a WA residency card by the end of June 2021 in order to remain legally in France.

The surveys close at midnight on June 14 and the results will be published on June 18.

Claire Phillips, administrator of the Rift (Remain In France Together) Facebook group, said they launched the surveys in a partnership with the British Embassy in Paris, which told them it had found data from its previous surveys on the application process “very useful”.

“We have agreed to run the two surveys and provide the data directly to them, as well as publish a national overview on our group and website,” Ms Phillips said.

It comes as there are now only a few weeks left to apply for one of the cards, which are specific to Britons in France and are marked ‘Article 50 TUE’ referring to the treaty article under which the UK withdrew from the EU.

These are not the same as the residency cards that some Britons previously applied for as EU citizens.

Rift’s Survey A is for people who have applied for a WA residency card but have had no further contact from the prefecture since doing so other than receiving an acknowledgement email.

Its Survey B is for those who have not applied, and it seeks to understand the reasons for this.

For those who have not yet applied, help is still on hand from several bodies funded by the UK government’s UK Nationals Support Fund.

Other sources of help include Rift’s Facebook group and regular British Embassy online Q&A sessions.
