Teenagers struck by lightning
One of eight victims in 'worrying condition' in hospital after incident at a campsite in Vienne
A teenager is in 'a worrying condition' in hospital and seven others received treatment following a lightning strike at a campsite in Vienne.
Emergency services said the 15-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest and burns in the incident at the site in Lathus-Saint-Rémy at about 7pm on Monday. He was taken to hospital in Tours. The remaining victims complained of hearing problems and ringing in their ears.
The eight victims had arrived at the venue that morning and were part of a group of 16 children aged between 13 and 17 from neighbouring Indre-et-Loire on a week-long activity camp.
Vienne was not one of 13 departments that had earlier been placed on orange alert for thunderstorms.
