Elysée stages electro concert for Fête de la Musique

Five artists will perform at four-hour celebration of French electronic music in Palace's main courtyard

The Elysée Palace is set to host an electronic music party for this year's Fête de la Musique on Thursday.

Since 1982 towns and cities across France have been alive to the sound of music on the day of the summer solstice, as professional and amateur musicians take to stages in the streets and in more traditional venues.

Some 1,500 music fans will head to the seat of government at the Elysée Palace for a four-hour celebration of French electronic music in the main courtyard as part of the celebrations at the 37th annual event. It is not known if President Emmanuel Macron and Brigitte Macron, who are scheduled to return from a trip to Brittany on Thursday, will make an appearance.

The concert will open at 8pm with a 45-minute set from Chloé.

She will be followed on stage by Cézaire.

Kiddy Smile will be the third to perform at the palace.

Kavinsky will then make a rare public appearance

Before Busy P, the former manager of Daft Punk, rounds off the night's festivities.

Elsewhere, instead of one large free concert at the Palais Royal, the Ministry of Culture has organised six free concerts: in Château-Arnoux-Saint-Auban (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), Verdun (Meuse), Château-Thierry (Aisne), Marsillargues (Hérault), Pacy-sur-Eure (Eure) and Pierrefitte-sur-Seine (Seine-Saint-Denis).

Meanwhile, thousands of concerts and music events will take place as part of the celebrations. The city of Nantes, for example, has created a special songbook that people can download for free so they can join in the songs at a free concert in Cours Saint Pierre.
