Can we still get our post forwarded to UK from second home in France?

La Poste’s forwarding service is not limited to EU countries so has not been affected by Brexit

Reader question: We used to get our post diverted from our French second home to the UK for six months a year. Can we still do this following Brexit?

Full Brexit since January 1 has affected several areas of life but fortunately this is not one of them.

This is because La Poste’s réexpédition temporaire internationale forwarding service is not limited to EU countries.

The service is typically geared to main home-owners in France who will be away from home abroad for an extended period. However, La Poste’s customer services confirmed to us that it is acceptable to be used by a non-resident to send mail from their French property to a home abroad.

We trialled this by making an order with a UK address at La Poste’s website.

There were no issues with doing this and the price is standard for all international destinations: €95 for one month to six months, or otherwise €47 for 15 days to one month, or €155 for six months to one year.

La Poste says it can forward items up to 2kg in weight.

When ordering the service, you give the dates when you want it to operate and you need to either order it while in France – in which case you wait to receive a letter with a code to activate the contract – or have another person collect the letter for you and forward it to you. Otherwise, contact La Poste’s customer service to activate it if you are out of France.
