Do not linger on weedy beaches

Some beaches in Brittany have been suffering from excessive green seaweed

SOME beaches in Brittany have been suffering from excessive green seaweed, a phenomenon known as la marée verte (the green tide).

According to the Breton tourist authorities, the weed poses no danger while swimming, but you should avoid walking on dried weed on the beach because toxic gases from fermentation can be released.

Though the gas is only dangerous in strong doses, it is safest not to linger if a smell of rotten eggs is given off.
