A nationwide computer failure disrupted services at La Poste offices today, September 15, leaving customers unable to send letters and parcels for several hours.
La Poste offices across France were affected by the IT incident which happened due to an overnight update that took longer than expected, according to TF1.
The disruption meant customers could not carry out several operations at post office counters, including buying stamps, sending letters and parcels and sending registered mail.
La Poste said its online services and cash machines remained available, while teams worked to restore the affected services.
Services eventually returned to normal by midday.
Will letters be delayed?
The outage already meant that people who needed to post letters or parcels during the disruption had to return later or tomorrow.
It is not yet clear whether the disruption will cause delays to mail delivery in the coming days.
The Connexion has contacted La Poste to ask whether mail posted before or during the disruption could face delays and whether customers should expect any knock-on effects to deliveries.
