Fishing season begins March 14

Trout and salmon season starts in many regions of France at the weekend.

THE TROUT and salmon fishing season gets under way on March 14 in many parts of France.

Exceptions include the Ile-de-France and some other northern areas of France where the season does not start until March 28.

It will last until September 20 (or October 4 for the areas with the later start date).

Last Saturday, in anticipation of the opening, fishing enthusiasts in the Dordogne released new trout into the waters of the Eyraud.

The president of the fishing association (AAPPMA) for the Pays de la Force area of the Dordogne, Pierre Jacquet urged people to follow all the rules surrounding the activity, including the limit of six trout to be fished at a time, and not to go into fenced off private property.

He added people wanting to fish must be sure to get a proper permit from the AAPPMA branch for their department.

Permits can often be bought at outlets like bar-tabacs.
