France 'good for women in business'

Study finds country is among the world’s leading nations for women running their own business

FRANCE is among the world’s leading nations for the number of women running their own business, according to latest figures.

L’Hexagone is fourth in the global list, behind USA, Australia and Sweden.

Economic powerhouse neighbours Germany came in fifth in the study published by the Global Entrepreneurship and Development Institute (GEDI).

Women’s rights minister Najat Vallaud Belkacem welcomed the news and said that it “reflects the progress made in France for gender equality in entrepreneurship”.

She pointed out that the government has set a target of 40% of all entrepreneurs being women by 2017.

But there’s still some way to go to achieve the gender equality goal. In America, 37% of entrepreneurs are women, compared to 25% across Europe.
