A total of 345 people died on the road during July, down 5.7% on the previous year and described as “a notable drop” by la Sécurité routière.

However the number of injured people admitted to hospital has risen by 14.9% compared with 2012.

Motorcyclist deaths have risen 19.3% compared to June and July last year.

A statement from la Sécurité routière. said: “It is necessary for motorcyclists to always have the right equipment, in spite of the hot weather, and car drivers should take extra care in regard of these road users, who are particularly vulnerable.”
