SFR’s network goes down again

Router problem leaves 3G and 4G mobile customers in the dark, less than a month after six-hour outage hit 3.8m clients

SFR’s 3G and 4G mobile customers were left without internet access last night, less than a month after its network went down for six hours.

A spokesman for the company said that the problem was caused by a routing issue that prevented some customers from accessing the internet via their mobile phones.

Earlier, it had responded to complaints with a message on Twitter that read: “We are experiencing a national incident and make every effort to rectify the situation as soon as possible.”

Last month, a hardware problem paralysed SFR’s 3G and 4G systems for six hours, affecting 3.8million customers.

The following day, the government announced that it had ordered the Agence nationale de sécurité des systèmes d'information (Ansii) to help identify the cause of the failure.

The spokesman insisted this latest incident was not related to the earlier breakdown.
