Snowfall in the Alpine ski resorts

A change in the weather this week means things are looking good for the end-of-season period

SNOWFALL is expected in the Alpine ski resorts over the next week, prolonging the ski season, which had seemed to be coming to a close.

Snow has been falling on the mountains and is being predicted to continue during the next eight days.

It is good news for resorts like Serre Chevalier and others in the Hautes-Alpes, that have suffered from mediocre snowfall this season, but are now able to round it off with ideal conditions.

The new snow will mean resorts no longer need heavy use of snow cannons to keep pistes open.

It comes just at the right time also for the Urban Plagne festivalhttp://www.urbanplagne.com/Hiver.2/ , taking place at present in La Plagne in Savoie, where 10 teams are competing to make skiing films over four days. Last year’s best three will be shown tomorrow night.

The event also includes a chance, from Friday to Sunday, to test out 200 different new ski designs aimed at the 2013-14 season and to see free films on ski themes.
