Soldier held after fatal knife fight

Legionnaire taken into custody after suspected drug dealer who threatened him with knife dies following late-night fight

A FRENCH soldier has been arrested after a man who threatened him with a knife died following fight in front of Paris’s Gare du Nord.

Police said the 28-year-old legionnaire was with a female friend near the station at about midnight on Friday when they were approached by a man who apparently tried to sell them drugs.

They refused, and the man threatened them both with a knife.

The soldier said he was stabbed in the hand, while the attacker suffered a number of stab wounds to the thigh and arm in the fight that followed.

He was taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The soldier was taken into custody and police are investigating whether he acted in self defence.
